ORSETT & Thurrock Cricket Club held an opening ceremony for their new cricket square on Friday the 26th April at School Lane in Orsett.

A special guest appearance by ‘Twinkle’ the Cricket All Stars mascot made the younger children’s that were in attendance night. Councillor Johnson said “This club is a true Community Asset that not only supports many Adult Cricket teams but also has over 200 children members which should help it grow long into the future so for me being able to support the opening of the new square was an honour”.
Angela Savage, chairperson of the Orsett Forum said “‘Bringing Cricket to the Community’ is the motto of Orsett & Thurrock Cricket Club and they have done a fantastic job of re configuring the recreation field to increase capacity and make full use of the Open Space. The number of participants who turned up on Friday for the Opening Ceremony is a testament to this.
“They have also planted numerous trees along the boundary to cater for the wildlife, and we understand they are hoping for a Community Cafe in the future, which would be ideal for users of the Outdoor Gym, the children’s playground and the proposed Boules Courts.
“The further changes they plan are ambitious, but with the strong support they have from both the Orsett Forum and the Community, I have no doubt they will succeed. The Forum wishes the club every success for the future.
