A 28-year-old from Tilbury man has been charged with robbery.

An Essex Police spokesperson said: ‘We were called shortly after midnight on May 4 with reports of a robbery on Civic Square. The victim, a man in his 20s, was approached by a man who threatened him with a hammer and demanded that he withdraw money from a nearby cash machine. The man then hit the victim in the stomach with the hammer.

“On May 9 we were called shortly after 5.15am, with reports that a man had approach a man in his 20s, demanded that he withdraw money from a cash machine, threatening the victim with a knife.

A short time later at around 6.25am, we received further reports that a man had approached a man in his 60s on Civic Square, threatened the victim and demanded he go to the cash point. The victim shouted for help and the man ran away.

Kurtis Randall of Leicester Road was arrested on May 19 in connection and subsequently charged with two counts of robbery, attempted robbery, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and threatening a person with an offensive weapon.

“He is due to appear at Basildon Magistrate’s Court today, Tuesday, May 21”.

  1. When are we going to get a government that gives a toss about solving the factors that lead to crime in the first place? And when are we going to get a government that is willing to properly fund the police so that we have more police officers on the streets that has been proven in many studies to be the only real effective deterrent? Even the death penalty (which I’m in favour of in some circumstances) is less effective than increased police presence on the streets so when are we going to get more police?

  2. Police or not just smash his hands with his hammer and see how he likes it when the role is reversed.
