Diabetes Week: Find out more at Thurrock’s Diabetes Day

THIS Diabetes Week (10-16 June) is a great opportunity to raise awareness of diabetes, the services on offer to support people and their families affected by the condition and find out tips on how to manage diabetes well.

Join Thurrock’s Diabetes Day on Wednesday 12 June 2019 from 10am to 4pm, drop in and speak to providers of services for people with diabetes and speak to others with the condition.

Diabetes is a growing concern in the UK, there are 4.7 million people in the UK living with the condition. Diabetes can have a significant impact on quality of life and everyone with the condition is different.

In Thurrock, around 9,000 people are already diagnosed with either Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes, and around 5,000 people are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes – a largely preventable disease. Thurrock Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is working closely with service providers in Thurrock to invite people affected by diabetes to find out more about how stay well and live well with the condition.

Kehinde Adeniji, Senior Commissioning Manager – Planned and Unplanned Care at Thurrock CCG said:

“This Diabetes Week from Diabetes UK is a great opportunity to ‘#SeeDiabetesDifferently’, and find out how to live positively with the condition. People with diabetes often aren’t aware of the range of services available from dietary advice, to foot care or wellbeing advice and weight management. We want people come who may be affected by the condition themselves or have a loved one affected by diabetes, to come and find out more.”

Stands will be available from Healthwatch Thurrock, Thurrock Healthy Lifestyles, More Life, NELFT Diabetes team, Diabetes Nurse and much more. Refreshments are provided at this free of charge event.

Event details: Wednesday 12 June at The Community House (ground floor), Seabrook Rise, Grays. Drop in between 10am and 4pm.
