Residents are invited to a free fun-filled community event at Coalhouse Fort on Sunday 30 June. Taking place from 11am to 4pm, the event will host a range of activities, displays and special exhibitions to mark Armed Forces Day and the Signing of the Treaty of Versailles which formally brought an end to the First World War.

A special exhibition ‘Peace – Making a New Europe’ will also be available at the Ground Floor Gallery, Thameside Complex from Monday 24 June until Friday 5 July. Presented by Thurrock Museum Volunteers, the exhibition will explore Thurrock’s history after the events of WW1 and commemorate the service of men and women in the British Armed Forces.

Cllr Huelin, Portfolio Holder for Communities, said: “This year we mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day which is an important reminder of what we owe those who have served in the British Armed Forces.

“There are a number of ways people can get involved and show their appreciation for these brave and committed men and women and their sacrifice to protect our values and freedom.”
