Thurrock Swimming Club Wins
Open Grant Project
THURROCK Swimming Club has been awarded a grant from Jack Petchey for a long term teaching and coaching project.
The Open Grant Project is a new programme set up by the Jack Petchey Foundation for clubs / organisations to help increase their volunteer base.
Thurrock SC is one of the most successful clubs in Essex and the East. Whilst the focus is on developing each childs skills in the pool, Thurrock SC provide voluntary teaching and coaching opportunities to all. Thurrock SC prides itself in providing life long skills to their young volunteers and helping them achieve professional qualifications. Each volunteer will undertake a specific course with the view of becoming a qualified teacher / coach. They will work alongside experienced teachers to gain additional knowledge before they undertake their course.
Chief Coach, Paul Robbins stated, “We provide a safe environment for each child and young person to develop physically and mentally. Confidence, goal setting, comunication and motivation are areas we support and help develop. We provide this service on an ongoing basis. Many of our swimmers stay with the Club for over 10 years.
The Open Grant Project will allow us to continue to invest in our volunteers and implement a long term robust training programme to enhance their skills and knowledge. It is another example of Jack Petchey’s commitment tosupporting young adults and we look forward to working more closely with the Foundation.”
