COLLINS House is a care home in Corringham run by Thurrock Council.
We sent a question to Thurrock Council re COVID-19.
The question has yet to be answered.
Infact since the crisis began, none of our questions have been answered.
We are not alone. We certainly know that Thurrock Nub News run by veteran journalist, Neil Speight has encountered the same experience.
We also know the BBC’s Local Democracy Reporter has encountered a similar “brick wall”.
This is not our experience with other councils.
Last week, our sister paper published a story that revealed that sixteen residents and one member of staff at a single care home had died.
Whilst researching the story we spoke to the care home, their press spokespeople, Essex County Council’s press spokesperson, Harlow Council’s’ spokesperson. We did that because that is the professional approach and well also wanted to get the story right and to handle it sensitively.
We continue to ask questions re care homes. There is a concern re numbers of residents that contract Covid-19, the number of residents that have died with COVID-19, the number of residents that have died and they suspect that they have died with COVID-19.
Are staff being tested? Are staff equipped properly?
Does your care home have an isolation area. Is it a true isolation area or just a bit of curtain?
We feel we have an open channel of communication with organisations such as Runwood Homes, Manorcourt, Quantum Care to name just three. We thank them for that.
This is the last we will say on the subject. Our little team are going to crack on and report the news as best we can but we will, one day, have our say.
We do hope everyone at Collins House is well. Everyone says hi……….
