ESSEX Firefighters were called to a fire at an industrial estate in Chadwell St Mary early this morning (Monday 3 August).
When firefighters arrived at the scene on St John’s Road, they reported that a number of vehicles (including cars, lorries and diggers) plus a portable cabin was alight in the yard of the industrial area.
Update 2am – Firefighters are using a number of hoses surrounding the yard to tackle the fire. Crews have also found a number of acetylene cylinders which will be closely monitored. A safety zone has been placed around the incident for safety.
Update 3:45am – Firefighters are making good progress tacking the fire, which is now almost out. The officer in charge will shortly be reducing the number of fire engines from six to four.
Update 5:10am – Firefighters are continuing to ensure the effected area is completely cool. Fire crews are working to find and extinguish all remaining hot spots.
An investigation wil be carried to establish how the fire started.
