Thurrock Swimmers Compete in Open Water Competition

SWIMMERS from Thurrock Swimming Club participated in an Open Water event held in Cheshunt.  Due to the pandemic the swimmers have taken to open water and sea swimming every week and it was an opportunity to compete in an event to use the skills they have gained over the past 4 months.

Races ranged from250m for the young novices up to 3000 for the more experienced swimmers.  Awards were given to the top 3 in the Juniors which ranged from 12-17 years of age.

In the 3000m Jude Hills came 1st and Nikita Charykin 2nd in the male category and Olivia Church finishing 1st in the female section with a fantastic finish at the end of her race.  Jenson & Terry Hurrell, Aiden Wood, Henry Dean, Mia Ward, Bryony Edgings, Mat Riddle, Elise Delapperall & Louise Webster were all outstanding in the 3km swim.

The 1500m swim produced more outstanding swims.  Joshua Shepherd finished 3rd in the Junior age group and Daisy Patterson, Sophie Conroy, George Church, Michaela & Gabriella Taiwo, Ademola Oshowole, Ayabami Akindele showed strength and great determination throughout the race.

Thurrock had many young swimmers take to the lake for their first open water swim.  In the 750m junior race (aged 8-12), Tobi Olajide and Amir Olalekan finished 1st and 2nd in the male category.  Lukas Ankudavicius, Lottie Delapperall, Brianna Avramescu, Roxanne Coker, Olivia Forrest & Kai Patel were all outstanding.  IN the open 750m swim, Daniel Thompson and Daria Avramescu performed equally brilliantly.

One of the youngest competitors in the competition was Isabel Forrest.  Isabel competed in the 250m novice race and swam exceptionally well.
