Interior Design alumni secures industry dream job

AN Interior Design graduate from University Centre South Essex has secured her dream job in the industry and says she owes it all to the course.

Alumni, Megan Holloway, studied the BA (Hons) Interior Design degree at the Centre’s Southend Campus.

Megan, 22, from Hornchurch, is now a Junior Interior Designer at Design Coalition. The company operate from a studio in Essex and work on projects across the hospitality sector. They have worked with clients such as Marriott Hotels, Miller & Carter Steakhouse, TGI Fridays, All Bar One and Holiday Inn.

Megan’s work days are very varied. Her tasks include sourcing design finishes in the sample rooms, meeting reps who present new products to her, putting together digital presentations or physical mood boards and organising quotations.

She said: “Without my degree, there is no way I could see myself being a part of such a competitive but inspiring industry! The degree enhances your creativity and teaches you all sorts of industry-standard skills such as constructing concepts, technical drawing, modelling and styling plus CV writing, portfolio building and presenting.”

Megan offered valuable advice to students graduating this year, she said: “Reach out to companies on LinkedIn or by directly emailing them – do not give up! Take any opportunities offered to you including freelance work and work experience.”

She added: “I would always advise to stay inspired and connected to your industry – subscribe to magazines, reading articles online, research trends, listen to podcasts and watch online webinars.”
