TREETOPS School is Grays has been closed down because of coronavirus issues.
A number of staff members are believed to have tested positive and others are being forced into self-isolation, meaning that the school cannot be staffed properly and has to close.
Parents of children at the highly-rated special school on Buxton Road, Grays, were being advised on Thursday afternoon.
It is likely that the school will be closed until at least the end of next week and possibly after half term.
The school has written to parents
Further to our e-mail of yesterday, unfortunately with more staff having to be tested under the advice from Public Health we are unable to staff classes at a level which safeguards the children. Therefore, we have made the difficult decision to close the school to staff and students from 4pm on Thursday 8th October. The school will remain closed until Monday 19th October. This return date is subject to staff who have been tested having negative results meaning we have sufficient staffing to open the school safely again.
This will also allow us to bring forward our planned deep clean of the school to take place during this time.
I am deeply sorry to have to take this action as we are keenly aware of the impact it has on students and their families, but as I am sure you agree our students’ safety is of the utmost importance.
Stay safe and keep well.
