AT last night’s Thurrock Council Housing Scrutiny Meeting, the Conservative Chair of the Committee, Cllr Luke Spillman, admitted that the proposed house building list was “worrying people unnecessarily.”

Following discussions, Cllr Lynn Worrall, Labour’s Housing Spokesperson, pressed council officers who admitted that five of the garages on the Lyndhurst Road site were privately owned – and the owners had not even been informed they were earmarked for building!

This is the latest blow to the doomed list which has seen successful campaigns from local residents and Labour Councillors remove many of the proposed sites.

Cllr Worrall added:

“More and more of the sites on this list have been removed, shelved or put on pause. This whole process of bringing house building sites forward is flawed. It needs to be scrapped and looked at again.

“The Tories have failed to bring forward sensible plans to build one development in the last four years, and now they agree with us that this list is worrying residents.

“Enough is enough. We need an ambitious house building plan so that Thurrock families can have the homes they deserve.”
