South Essex College in yellow to support mental health awareness

STUDENTS and staff at South Essex College wore yellow to raise awareness and support of Young Minds Hello Yellow campaign.

The college encouraged everyone to wear bright attire to raise funds for Young Minds charity’s ‘Hello Yellow’ campaign on Friday, but most importantly, to talk about mental health and break the stigma surrounding this important issue.

A total of £177.85 was raised on the day for the charity.

The day was organised by the college’s Wellbeing & Safeguarding team, with Head of Safeguarding Jane Belcher calling it a ‘great success’.

She said: “#HelloYellow in support of Young Minds and World Mental Health Day is a great event to highlight positive mental wellbeing for young people.”

“Here at the college, we know a number of our students struggle with mind health and getting involved in Hello Yellow is our way of showing them we understand and we stand with them for access to better mental health services for all.”

The college is constantly looking at how best to support and promote mental wellbeing. Members of staff across the campuses are qualified as mental health first aiders and students and staff have access to Togetherall, a free mental health online safe community offering 24/7 to improve mental health and wellbeing.

The college also has educational mental health practitioners to support the emotional wellbeing and mental health of students up to 18 years of age with group workshops, individual work and staff support.
