FOLLOWING a successful bid, which was backed by Thurrock Council, the Government confirmed the creation of a Thames Freeport, which will deliver thousands of new jobs and see unprecedented investment in infrastructure into the Thurrock area. SS17 Conservatives have been pushing for a Stanhope “link road” feasibility study which has been added to the Outline Business Case put forward by Thames Freeport.

Cllr Shane Hebb for Stanford West said: “We said that we will seize on this opportunity to campaign for a link road between the Manorway and the Stanhope Industrial Estate in Wharf Road, taking industrial traffic away from Wharf Road, Corringham Road, and London Road – roads which have long suffered being the roads in-and-out of a well-used and expanding industrial park.

“We are very pleased that the formally submitted business case proposes a feasibility study into an infrastructure connection between Stanhope and The Manorway to help connect an industrial estate to the appropriate road infrastructure. The economic benefit links directly with the Freeport policy, and – if a link road ever comes to fruition – it could eliminate the need for industrial traffic to navigate through residential areas as an added benefit”.
Cllr Terry Piccolo for Stanford West said: “As ever, we can promise nothing other than our every effort to help support this process.

“We have a hopeful ambition of building a case for a connected-infrastructure solution to eliminate industrial traffic in Wharf Road – it may or may not happen, but for the first time in 10+ years, we actually have a mechanism for the public sector and private sector organisations to assess this formally – and we intend to fully support this assessment for the obvious reasons”.
