Happiness and joy at Gateway Academy as students receive GCSE results

AFTER a really challenging couple of years for every single student across the country and a long anxious wait during the summer, the moment finally came today when Year 11 students at the Gateway Academy received their GCSE grades. There were shrieks of joy and relief as student after student opened their envelopes to see how well they have achieved.

Senior leaders and Trustees are delighted that once again, Gateway has continued to support students to achieve their potential. Overall results are really pleasing and given the students’ starting points the 2022 GCSE results for Gateway represent exceptional progress over time.

For many years now, Gateway’s maths faculty has been one of the highest performing nationally and the 2022 results have continued this trend. Headteacher Grainne McLaughlin praised the exceptionally hard-working maths faculty and drew attention to the progress students have made since joining the academy in Year 7 which she described as ‘exceptional’.

In recent years, Gateway has proven that its students can compete with the best in the UK across a broad range of subjects with maths, arts, history and modern foreign languages outstripping the UK’s Average. In 2022 the top 10 students achieved 38 Grade 9 qualifications and over 100 grades 7+. The Gateway Grammar Stream, introduced when these pupils were in Year 7, has provided the necessary support and stimulus to ensure that more-able students achieve in-line with their potential.

Mrs McLaughlin commented, ‘I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of our Year 11 cohort from 2022 for everything they have achieved throughout their time with us. I am proud of each and every student and will be forever in awe at the resilience they showed following the pandemic.’

The GLC’s CEO, Viki Reid said ‘I am incredibly proud of our Year 11 students who have achieved a fantastic set of results despite challenging circumstances. This is testament to their hard work and determination, the commitment and skill of their brilliant teachers and the excellent leadership of Mrs McLaughlin and her team. I wish them every success for their future.’
