Essex Metro Bank Stores Appeal for Donations for Most in Need this Christmas

Metro Bank’s Colchester, Chelmsford and Basildon stores are collecting donations in store to help support their local Trussell Trust foodbanks as part of the Bank’s Christmas Community Campaign to spread the warmth this winter.

Part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust which is working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK. The charity’s vision is for a UK without the need for foodbanks as one in five in the UK live below the poverty line.

The Basildon Foodbank fed 2,079 people in crisis last year and its food parcels typically include tinned tomatoes, fruit, vegetables, beans, soup, meat and fish, tea bags, coffee and sugar, breakfast cereals, pasta, pasta sauce, rice and snacks.  Basildon residents and businesses can donate any of these items at the Basildon Metro Bank at 2 East Walk in the Eastgate Centre

The Colchester Foodbank provides emergency food parcels to individuals and families in sudden crisis and has seen a 47% increase in need since last year when they helped 13,966 people in crisis.  Colchester residents and businesses can take their donations to the Metro Bank at 31-32 High Street, Colchester.

The Chelmsford Foodbank has been helping people in the Chelmsford area for nine years – they would appreciate any donation, but are currently desperately short of UHT milk, instant mash and tinned potatoes,  in addition to mince pies, sponge puddings, tinned ham, tea bags, tinned fruit, meat, sweets and treats and any food that can be easily microwaved. The Chelmsford Metro Bank has been working with this foodbank and has already donated over 400 items. Chelmsford residents and businesses can take their donations to the Metro Bank at 38 High Street, Chelmsford.

“As a community bank, all the Essex stores want to really help those most in need this Christmas and spread the warmth this winter,” explains Colchester Metro Bank Local Director, Chris Morgan.  “We would encourage everyone to give a little this Christmas – even one tin can make a difference. I want to thank everyone in advance for their generous support.”

Metro Bank stores are open Monday – Saturday: 8:30am – 6pm. Sunday: 11am – 5pm.
