Ongoing support for struggling households in Thurrock

THURROCK Council is continuing to help vulnerable households across the borough thanks to an additional £2.59 million of UK Government funding for the Household Support Fund which will be distributed throughout the 2023/24 financial year.

The funding will be used to provide essential support to households most in need including:

£720,000 allocated to provide free school meals in the two-week Easter break and the six-week school summer holiday
£1.87m to provide help for households in financial hardship through the Essential Living Fund, which includes help with utility bills

The Essential Living Fund is open to households that receive benefits or are living on a low income, applications are open to all and money from the fund can be used to pay for essentials including food, clothes, utility bills, furniture and white goods.

More information about the Essential Living Fund, including information about how to apply, can be found at thurrock.gov.uk/essential-living-fund.

More information about free school meals is on the council website at: thurrock.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals
