AVELEY’S hopes of automatic promotion took a major blow with a home defeat against league leaders, Stortford.
A single goal by Ryan Charles (31) was the difference between the two teams.
The result leaves Aveley in fourth place, five points off the top with just three games to play.
Their best hope is a play off place which means they play their semi-final at home.
They now face fellow promotion chasers Canvey Island away on Easter Monday.
