LABOUR’S Parliamentary Candidate for Thurrock, Jen Craft has slammed Conservative MP Jackie Doyle-Price for speaking out too late against plans to close Orsett Hospital.
In a speech to Parliament on Monday, Doyle-Price stated that she’d supported the closure of the well regarded local hospital and had been made to look a fool when the ‘integrated health hubs’ which were to act as a replacement failed to materialise.
Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Thurrock, Jen Craft, said:
“For those of us who were born at Orsett hospital and have campaigned for it for many years, firstly against the removal of it’s A&E, the downgrading of services and now the plans to close it, none of this will come as a surprise. We knew that this Government weren’t going to deliver improvements to our health services, because they just don’t care about what people in Thurrock need.
“For our Tory MP to suddenly realise that we were right all along simply isn’t good enough. We need change. We need a Government and a council who will deliver what we need in Thurrock and an MP who will stand up for us. If this MP and this Government can’t do it then they should stand aside, call a general election and let the people of Thurrock vote for the change we desperately need.”
