Positioning Your TV

The first step to installing your new device is making sure you have the perfect place for it. Most people like to place their TVs in the focal point of the room, ensuring that the sofa and other furniture are facing it. This way, it’s easy to get comfortable and watch all your favourite shows without putting strain on your neck or eyes.

Aside from positioning it in the centre of the room, you also want to make sure that the spot you choose has enough space. Ideally, it should also be close to the power outlet and connection port for you to plug in the coaxial cable. This cable is necessary if you want to receive terrestrial broadcasts and watch your favourite channels.

If your new TV is much bigger than your previous one, make sure that the position you choose is far enough back that it doesn’t hurt your eyes to watch. It’s worth checking out size guides to see which size TV suits you best. Of course, if you’re planning to use an existing TV stand, it will need to fit properly so it isn’t at risk of falling.

Plugging Your TV In

In order to power up your TV, you’ll first need to plug the power cable into an available socket. If you’ve chosen a good position for your TV, you should have an outlet nearby. However, if it’s too far away, you can use an extension cord. Make sure that if you do run cables along, you keep them tidied away so they don’t become a trip hazard.

Aside from plugging the power cable in, your TV will also need to be connected to the aerial. This is easily done, provided you have a coaxial cable port in the room in which you’re installing your TV. If not, you may need to get an engineer to install one or simply run the cable from a room that has one. This will allow you to pick up TV broadcasts through the antennae or satellite dish on the outside of your property. Once connected, simply scan for channels to discover all of the available over-the-air options. This process should be automatic, but you may need to do it manually from the settings if they don’t appear at first.

Connecting Your TV to the Internet

Most modern TVs now have internet connectivity, meaning they can become smart TVs if you set them up. All you need is a broadband connection and a compatible TV. Once you’ve turned your device on, you should be able to access the settings from the home screen. This will give you an option to connect to broadband.

Copy the password from your router to set it up, and you should now have internet access. Most smart TVs come with certain apps included, so you can easily log into your Netflix or Amazon streaming accounts and start watching. If they’re not included, simply download them from the app store and anything else you might like to include on your TV.
