MEMBERS of Grays Townswomen’s Guild and guests came together this week to celebrate the group’s 70th anniversary.

The birthday was marked with a lunch at Top Meadow Golf Club, with a lovely meal followed by entertainment from singer Heidi McCaffrey who soon had people up dancing.

Everyone received a special 70th birthday cup cake made by one of the members and the ladies also received a souvenir mug marking the occasion.

The Guild, which meets on the fourth Wednesday afternoon each month at the Methodist Church Hall, was started in 1954 and there was a memorabilia table at the lunch with plenty of photographs from past events which gave everyone a good chuckle at the fashion changes over the years.

Chairlady Yvonne Lauder told Nub news: “Our meeting afternoons are friendly and fun with a raffle and speaker plus a drink and biscuit and the chance to have a good natter with friends.

“We are still going strong after 70 years with a full subscription of members and a waiting list.”
