The opening race of Saturday is at 4.10 as 12 two-year-old’s head to the stalls for the restricted novice stakes in class five over the seven furlong trip. This race can go to Antonin Dvorak for trainer Karl Burke, an emphatic winner at Musselburgh on his last run and remains with plenty of potential in this sphere. Of his rivals, Gilet rates the chief threat, a winner at Lingfield last month and followed up with a second 14 in a Newbury nursery last time out.
Race two on the card sees another decent field of 11 take on the seven furlong class six handicap (4.45) and Twitch got off the mark for trainer Craig Benton over this course and distance last month before backing that up with another Chelmsford win a fortnight back so is firmly in the frame to complete a Chelsmford hat trick on Saturday. Lady Wingalong is a dual winner this year and was second in a decent Wolverhampton handicap on her last spin so is taken to fill the second spot.
A mile handicap in class four marks race three on the card (5.20) and 13 runners are set to take it on. Baraq has two wins from six this year for trainer Sir Mark Prescott including one at Newcastle eight days ago for a second strike on the spin so can complete the hat trick heading to Essex just 4lb higher in the weights. Course and distance winner Red Hat Eagle can give him the most to think about, not running up to par when fifth at Ayr though he was hampered.
H Key Lails looks the to be bang up there in race four on Saturday (5.50) having only just been edged out over course and distance last time out to the re-opposing Bold Suitor, while race five (6.20) can go the way of Many A Star for trainer Jamie Osborne, dropping back into 0-80 rated handicaps following a seventh at Goodwood last time out but before that was a fine third at Windsor in tougher waters than this.
A field of nine will take on the class four handicap over six furlongs to mark race six on Saturday (6.50) and Nemov for trainer Clive Cox could be the way to go here, posting a career-best on his last run when coming from the back of the pack to score at Kempton and showing he has way, way more in the tank.
Time Patrol was a strong-finishing second at Wolverhampton three weeks ago and the Tony Carroll-trained runner should take the beating in class six handicap at 7.20, only up 1lb in the weights for being narrowly defeated in the Midlands. Four-time course and distance winner Araifjan is the main threat here having fallen to a handy mark despite bouncing back to form when second at Wolverhampton 12 days ago.
Marching Mac is the clear one to beat in the penultimate race of Saturday’s meeting (7.50) having emphatically landed a seven-runner handicap at Brighton earlier this week and hasn’t been penalised by the handicapper for that success so should follow up, while the final race of the day (8.20) can go the way of Mc’ted for trainer Joseph Parr, bidding for a hat-trick after wins at Yarmouth and Pontefract in recent weeks.
