The action gets underway at 4.35 and a small field of five two-year-old’s will head to the stalls for the one mile and two furlong maiden stakes in class five to kick things off. Devil’s Advocate for the Gosden team looks the one to beat, third of seven on debut in a Newmarket maiden three weeks ago, defying greenness initially to finish strongly so is taken to go a couple of spots better in the opener at Chelmsford.

Race two on the card (5.10) is a much bigger field contest, with 14 horses heading to the stalls for the one mile and two furlong class six handicap. Switchel has dropped to a handy mark for trainer Hughie Morrison and could be the one to side with here, having finished third at Southwell three weeks ago on her first spin on the all-weather. Gone Rogue rates at the main threat, second of seven in a handicap at Musselburgh last month and enters calculations here as he steps up in trip for the first time.

Course and distance winner H Key Lalis was a very good short head second at this track 28 days ago and is taken to get back to winning ways for trainer Michael Attwater in race three of Thursday’s meeting (5.45) as ten runners take on the class six handicap over a mile. The re-opposing Bold Suitor, who beat Attwater’s runner last time out, is taken to get the second here on every so slightly worse terms than his rival.

Trainer Ben Brookhouse has a strong chance in race four (6.15) as 11 runners tackle the seven furlong handicap in class six. Profitman is the runner in question for Brookhouse, a previous course and distance winner that was also second over course and distance 19 days ago and a repeat of that effort should see him go one better this time around. Wrath Of Hector was a good third of 10 at this course on the same card so rates a player once again.

How Impressive will be aiming to be exactly that when he takes on the seven furlong handicap in class five (6.45) for trainer Hugo Palmer with the eye-catching booking of jockey Oisin Murphy to ride and with three wins this season, should go well once again. Race six (7.15) can go the way of Simiyann for trainer Ian Williams, who has bounced back to form recently with a second at this track on October 3 before finally shedding his maiden tag at Wolverhampton last time out.

The penultimate race on the Thursday card (7.45) is a six furlong handicap in class three and can go the way of Dorney Lake for the Gosden team, who has two wins under his belt from six runs this year and makes his all-weather debut in Essex off the back of a respectable fight at York on the turf when last seen.

Finally, the card comes to a close with the shortest race of the night, the five furlong class five handicap for horses aged three and older (8.15) and preference in the finale heads the way of Dark Side Prince for trainer Jessica Macey, a five-time course and distance winner that included a hat-trick in the spring before a disappointing run at Wolverhampton, though a return to familiar surroundings should be a major plus side.
