Essex developer drives economic growth in east of England

BARRATT and David Wilson Eastern Counties, a leading housebuilder based in Chelmsford, has contributed £80.6 million to the UK economy by completing work on 480 new homes across the East of England in the past financial year.

These achievements are highlighted in a recent report detailing the socio-economic impact of the developer’s operations between 1st July 2023 and 30th June 2024. During this period, homes were delivered across developments in Essex, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.

The report reveals the extent of the company’s contributions to local communities, public services, and the environment, alongside its support for the construction supply chain. Key highlights include:

Job creation: Supporting 1,098 jobs directly and indirectly through contractors and suppliers.
Local partnerships: Collaborating with 211 subcontractor companies and 264 suppliers.
Green spaces: Establishing three hectares of green space for residents and the public to enjoy.
Community funding: Contributing £4.1 million via the Community Infrastructure Levy and Section 106 agreements.
Community improvements: Investing £42.4 million in highways, affordable housing, environmental upgrades, and community facilities.
Charitable giving: Donating £79,200 to charities through company contributions, employee fundraising, and supplier sponsorships.
