OFSTED has commended Woodville Primary School for its approaches to teaching and learning, which mean pupils ‘achieve highly’ and ‘show positive learning behaviours’ following its recent inspection. The co-educational primary school, located in South Woodham Ferrers, educates more than 400 pupils aged five to 11 years old within the local community.

The report emphasises that pupils at Woodville Primary School ‘love school’, attributing this to the ‘variety of experiences available’, including chances to ‘help pupils to learn that they can be helpful members of the school community’ and the encouragement and praise they receive from teachers.
It also highlighted that pupils ‘take pride in completing work well and trying their best’. Ofsted inspectors praised teachers’ ability to make learning ‘relevant’ and ‘design effective tasks that help pupils to retain knowledge’, noting that pupils with SEND ‘make strong progress through the curriculum’.
Jacqui Phillips, Headteacher, Woodville Primary School, said: “As a school, we believe that every child has the ability to do amazing things and that we can help them to achieve their potential. I am proud that Ofsted has recognised our pupils’ achievements and the hard work of our teaching staff.”
Inspectors also praised the school’s approach to supporting pupils’ mental health and wellbeing, noting that it provides ‘valuable help’ and ‘helps pupils to build resilience’.
Ms Phillips continued: “Our collaborative approach to improving pupils’ learning is reflected in their academic achievements at a school, and in comparison to national levels. We are also particularly proud to read how our pupils’ have success in reading from an early age. It was a joy to hear from inspectors how much our pupils love to be part of the Woodville Primary School community and their enthusiasm and eagerness for learning.”
Woodville Primary School will join Chelmsford Learning Partnership, a local multi-academy trust, in the coming months, and Ms Phillips shared: “We are excited to join the trust and I know that our staff will benefit from collaborating with its family of schools to build on the work we have already done to strengthen teaching and learning at Woodville.”
Paul Banks, CEO, Chelmsford Learning Partnership, said: “Woodville Primary School’s recent Ofsted inspection has highlighted the many strengths of the school, and it was a joy to read that pupils take so much pleasure in their learning. We are looking forward to welcoming Woodville into our trust’s family of schools in the near future.”
The visit was the school’s first inspection under Section 5 of the Education Act 2005. To learn more about Woodville Primary School, visit: www.woodvilleprimaryschool.org.uk/
