LONDON Stansted is gearing up for one of its busiest periods of the year with an anticipated 1.5 million passengers set to travel through the terminal over the Easter holiday.

Between April 5 and 21, around 780,000 passengers are expected to depart from Stansted, while the airport will also welcome 720,000 inbound travellers, showcasing the airport’s strong global connectivity, with flights to 200 worldwide destinations.

Popular destinations include sunny spots like Dubai, Spain, Italy, and Portugal, while cultural city breaks to Rome, Barcelona and Budapest are also in high demand. Skiers are also expected to make the most of the final days of snow in the Alps.

The Easter break coincides with the launch of the airport’s summer flight schedule, which kicked off at the weekend, offering more destinations across Europe, North Africa, and beyond.

Six airlines – Ryanair, Jet2, British Airways, Transavia, Air Algérie, and SunExpress- are introducing 14 new routes as part of their summer timetables, giving travellers even more choice for their next getaway.

Ryanair launched the first wave of new routes in March, adding flights to the coastal town of Reggio Calabria in Italy, Bodrum in Turkey, and Linz in Austria.

More new flights are set to launch this week, including Ryanair to Lübeck (Germany), Air Algérie to Algiers (Algeria), and Transavia to Rotterdam (Netherlands).

The network will continue to grow over the summer with additional destinations being added between the end of April and July.

New routes to look forward to include Clermont-Ferrand (France), Pula (Croatia), Bergen (Norway), Münster (Germany), Dalaman (Turkey), Casablanca (Morocco), Bergerac (France), and Kayseri (Turkey).

Jonathan Fowler, Chief Operating Officer at London Stansted, said:

“We’re expecting around 1.5 million passengers to travel through London Stansted over the Easter holidays. It’s always a busy and exciting time, and our team is fully prepared to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone, whether they’re jetting off for a beach holiday, a city break, or spending time with loved ones.”
To ensure a hassle-free journey, passengers are reminded to arrive at least two hours before their departure to allow time for check-in and security. As always, the usual security rules apply, with liquids and gels needing to be in containers no larger than 100ml and placed in a clear, resealable plastic bag.
