NINE new Lead Schools appointed to Greater Essex Music Hub as part of Arts Council England Initiative.
The Lead Schools will work on a variety of musical projects and activities to inspire and engage children and young people. They will also offer support to other schools throughout Essex, Southend and Thurrock.

Essex County Council is delighted to appoint the following lead schools
Essex:
Beehive Lane Primary School
Buttsbury Primary School
The Gilberd School
Stambridge Primary School
Saffron Walden County High School
Southend:
Hamstel Junior School
Southend High School for Boys
Thurrock:
Thames Park School
Woodside Primary School.
The schools all offer high-quality music teaching and will be champions of best practice in their local area, and across the county.
Peter Lovell, Essex Music Service Lead Officer said, “I would like to congratulate the appointed schools and thank them for being advocates for music. We look forward to working with them to develop stronger links between local schools and academy trusts. We want to ensure schools are supported to deliver an excellent music curriculum for their students and all young people across the Hub region have access to high quality music experiences.”
Lead Schools are expected to work closely with their local Music Service provider. Lead Schools will act as champions for the area and co-create activity with local providers, funded by the Music Hub. This will create a more collaborative and effective music education ecosystem.
Councillor Tony Ball, Cabinet Member for Education Excellence, Life Long Learning and Employability said, “We know that music can play such an important part in a young person’s life. It supports wellbeing and nurtures their musical talents. We are pleased to be able to formalise our partnerships with schools through the lead school appointments. We look forward to bringing many more music activities to as many young people as possible in Essex, Southend and Thurrock.”
