ESSEX Police arrested 17 more people as they attempt to tackle offenders affecting communities across Essex, including a woman suspected of being concerned in the supply of cannabis in Rayleigh.

A spokesperson said: “Our Operational Support Group (OSG) made nine of those arrests on Thursday 29 May. The team are dedicated to locating and arresting suspects countywide for serious sexual and violent crimes.

Among them was a 20-year-old man from northwest London wanted on suspicion of assault, intentional strangulation and controlling and coercive behaviour in Essex. Our officers have now questioned him and he has been released on bail while enquiries continue.

Our Neighbourhood Policing Teams have also arrested eight more people. While on patrol they’ll make sure court orders like Criminal Behaviour Orders are being enforced, as well as meeting the public and gathering intelligence that helps build a clear picture of the issues affecting where you live.

Voters in the Castle Point district saw their team on patrol on polling day, and they were joined by the Chief Constable as he saw more of the team’s work in action following the launch of the NPTs on 28 May.

In Harlow, the NPT detained a suspect with a warrant for their arrest, another for failing to attend court for a shop theft charge, and another on suspicion of shoplifting in the town centre.

In Chelmsford, as well as marking more than a dozen bikes for the public to make them traceable if stolen, NPT also arrested two suspect for a total of seven breaches of their Criminal Behaviour Orders.

And in Rayleigh, the Rochford NPT arrested a 36-year-old woman on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of cannabis.

She has been released under investigation while enquiries in this case continue.

These arrests have all taken place as part of regular work carried out by officers, alongside more than 500 speed checks and almost 50 vehicle stops.

“This work on the roads has led to 64 traffic offence reports being given to drivers and five vehicles seized where drivers had no insurance”.
