ST Clere’s FC have taken a bold and inspiring step in expanding their football provision by launching a new pan-disability initiative for children aged 5-11.
The club has embraced the FA Club Programme since undertaking a full review alongside representatives from the Essex County FA, including Danny Adderson and Siân Hillis, who visited the club’s 3G facility at St Clere’s School to witness the exciting new session in action.
England Football’s Comets Disability Football Programme is a first disability-specific football offering for St Clere’s, and it marks a significant milestone in their journey towards being a more inclusive club. With sessions already running on a weekly basis, and with positive feedback pouring in, there are ambitions to grow this area further in forthcoming seasons.

“Since meeting Chairman, Bill Mumford, and his committee to introduce the FA Club Programme, St Clere’s have gone above and beyond to introduce the Comets programme,” said Danny Adderson, Football Development Officer at the Essex County FA. “Paul-Frankie O’Brien is passionate about inclusive football and his motivations are inspiring. Alex, Chloe and Dan from the club have also been instrumental in delivering the sessions.”
The launch of Comets aligns closely with The FA’s wider vision of creating a game which is truly For All. By working closely with the Essex County FA through the Club Programme, St Clere’s FC are actively increasing their pathway offerings, with disability football now forming a proud part of their future. Comets Disability Football Programme: Where Fun and Friendship Shine Bright!
Forget the pressure of results, stats and performance. The Comets Disability Football Programme is all about bringing fun and friendship to life in a safe, recreational football environment. It’s a space where disabled children can believe in themselves and belong to a community. Comets steps outside the traditional rules of the game to create a flexible, inclusive experience which celebrates individuality and diversity.
Comets is a recreational football initiative designed for disabled children aged 5–11. It provides weekly sessions, held in the evening or at weekends, focused on having fun, building confidence and independence and creating social connections. The sessions are delivered by FA-qualified coaches, trained to ensure they meet the specific needs of participants. This means every child is supported in an inclusive, safe environment where they can enjoy football and develop their skills.
Comets helps clubs deliver fun, recreational football, tailored to disabled children, supporting their growth and fostering a love for the game. It’s also part of a larger goal: to develop a strong, inclusive disability football pathway. With Comets, children experience football in its most joyful form – where they can just be themselves, make friends and thrive.
