“NEIGHBOURHOOD Policing Teams are already making a difference and getting results”.

That’s from our Chief Constable as figures show our NPTs have made more than 500 arrests and secured more than 300 charges since they were expanded at the beginning of April.

These teams – renamed from our Community Policing Teams – are seeing a total of 74 additional officers roles in response to the Government’s Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee.

Chief Constable Ben-Julian Harrington said the force knows how important visibility is: “We value our neighbourhoods which is why we’ve increased local presence and visibility.
“More than 90 percent of people in Essex tell us that they think a regular uniformed presence in their area is important and we’re listening to that feedback.
“But it’s not just about visibility, it’s about making a tangible difference to you – these teams are working hard to prevent and investigate crime, get justice for victims, and work with partners to resolve issues that matter to you.
“Sometimes you may not see the work they are doing, but you will see the impact of what they are doing – less crime, less anti-social behaviour, and safer communities.”
“This adds to our commitment to keep our cops visible in the communities they serve.”
The teams were expanded from 1 April and since then they have made 531 arrests and secured 336 charges.

Mr Harrington said the teams are working hard for the public: “Neighbourhood Policing Teams are already making a difference and getting results.

“Their work has brought more than 500 suspects into custody and ensured people are being put before the courts.

“Earlier this month Tendring’s NPT made arrests and secured two charges in connection with anti-social behaviour and theft in Clacton.
“Work by Southend’s NPT has seen a man who repeatedly harassed and abused vulnerable members of the public put behind bars and they made an arrest over vehicle break-ins in Shoebury.

“Meanwhile, the NPT in Thurrock secured burglary and attempted burglary charges in South Ockendon.
“And Basildon’s team ensured a burglar was sentenced to two-and-a half years.
“Neighbourhood Policing Teams are working with partners across the county to tackle the issues you tell us you’re worried about and are affecting your lives.
“We have prioritised investment into visible and accessible officers where you live and work. We’re doing this because we value our neighbourhoods.”
