TUESDAY evening brings another competitive racecard to Chelmsford Racecourse, featuring the Listed Queen Charlotte Fillies’ Stakes, worth over £56,000 to the winner, alongside six other quality contests.

Starting off the evening is a mile and three-quarters handicap (6.00). There might only be eight runners, but this is nonetheless an open-looking race with plenty of promising form on offer. Andrew Balding’s Belgravian won his last start on turf at Doncaster, and should be at the sharp end again today. Luke Dace’s Tatmeen has only ever run on the all-weather, but makes his first Chelmsford appearance today. His recent form suggests capability, but also inconsistency. If on a going day, he could enter calculations. An Bradan Feasa ought to be able to win this though, bringing some very strong form to the table and the booking of jockey Tom Marquand a major plus.

A five-furlong handicap is next (6.30). Almaty Star is only two pounds off his last winning mark, and – already a course and distance winner – he has the running style to suit this track. Keep an eye also on the market regarding stablemate Blazes Boylan, who has an eyecatching jockey booking in Billy Loughnane and also sports excellent course form.

Race three is a novice test for fillies aged three to five, run over seven-furlongs (7.00). All but two of the 10 runners have been seen before, the debutants being Millie’s A Minx and Holly Holy, the latter of which looks to be the best on paper. The filly with the best qualifications to win this race is the scopey Miss Chester, already a distance winner by an impressive margin in May. Pixie Diva, though, showed a good turn of foot on debut at Lingfield over six furlongs and could be dangerous.

Next is a seven-furlong handicap (7.30). Stella Hogan is a consistent sort who has kept up a good level of form this year despite having a tendency to be slowly away, so she should have a decent claim given seven pounds by her rider. Royal Pleasure is tried in first time cheekpieces in a bid to engage him better at the start, but he is a strong finisher and – if they work – could find this an easy race to win.

The feature race follows; the Listed Queen Charlotte Fillies’ Stakes, with a good-sized field of 11 runners (8.00). Jabaara tops the ratings but is drawn widest of all on this occasion, which may put her at a disadvantage. Andrew Balding’s Miss Information has taken a big step forward this term, last seen winning the Kensington Palace Stakes, and looks more than capable of running a good race in Listed company. Lou Lou’s Gift is also of interest on her way to the Bunbury Cup Handicap, for whom a win of this race might guarantee her a run.

The penultimate race is a hot two-mile handicap (8.30). A case can be made for all of the 13 runners here, so picking a winner is a tough ask. Both It’s Tim and Beauld As Brass have won four consecutive races already this term, while Blindedbythelights is certainly of interest in first time cheekpieces after a good display on reappearance. Trouville found a step up in trip last time out beneficial, placing a narrow second, and could go one better for the in-form Simon & Ed Crisford stable.

The finale is a mile and a quarter handicap (9.00). In yet another hot contest, it’s worth noting that Charlie Johnston sends Bamburgh a fair distance to run here, while Kitaro Kich looks interesting back up in trip. Tribal Wisdom might build on his last run, third of seven at Salisbury, from the mark and be able to win in a first time tongue strap under Rossa Ryan.

6.30 – Almaty Star
7.00 – Pixie Diva
7.30 – Royal Pleasure
