LOCAL MP for Basildon and Billericay, Richard Holden, has written to businesses across the constituency warning them that they are being sleepwalked into disaster by the government and its Unemployment Bill.

Mr Holden has warned businesses that Labour’s Unemployment Bill will make it more expensive for them to operate by hiking the cost of employing a worker by £150 a year meaning businesses will be less likely to hire people, giving trade unions unlimited powers increasing the number of strikes by 35 per cent and cost British businesses £5 billion every year.

Mr Holden has therefore called on businesses to join his campaign against the Government’s Bill for the sake of Basildon and Billericay’s high streets and workers.

The Unemployment Bill comes on top of other tax rises on business being imposed by Labour. These include the National Insurance Jobs Tax, which will increase unemployment by an estimated 50,000, and the 140 per cent increase in business rates.

If you want to campaign against the Government causing further damage to the high street, join the campaign by visiting Richard Holden’s website.

Speaking after writing to local businesses, The Rt Hon Richard Holden MP said:

“Businesses across Basildon and Billericay are telling me that things just keep getting tougher. But Labour’s Unemployment Bill is set to make things even worse with more strikes and more red tape.

“That is why I have launched a campaign against the Unemployment Bill so that businesses are not sleepwalked into disaster.

“If you run a business in Basildon and Billericay, make sure to sign the petition so that we can protect local jobs and keep our high street alive.”

Commenting, Shadow Business and Trade Secretary, The Rt Hon Andrew Griffith MP said:

“The economy badly needs the growth that only businesses create.

“Yet Labour’s ‘Bill for Unemployment’ is a trade union charter that will increase strikes, slash jobs and raise prices.

“Going back to 1970’s style domination by the unions is the very last thing Britain needs right now and shows just how little this socialist government understands business. Angela Rayner is taking a wrecking ball to the UK economy.”
