A TEAM of family and friends will take part in the St. Luke’s Loop on Sunday 5th October in memory of Pat Jones – a mum, wife and grandmother, who was cared for by St. Luke’s Hospice.
Now in their third year, the team began walking in Pat’s memory shortly after her death in October 2023 as a way to give back to the Hospice that supported her and her family at the most difficult time.

John says: “Pat was amazing – a true East End lady with strong values at her core. She was the one who was never sick, always put others first and was very loving and caring. When she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer it was completely devastating.
“We were pointed in the direction of St. Luke’s Hospice, but Pat was hesitant, and she hadn’t really come to terms with what was happening. Eventually we persuaded her to go to the Hospice and her mind completely changed after the first appointment. The team at St. Luke’s Hospice made her feel safe, helped her understand what was happening and gave her support every step of the way.
“Pat went to the Hospice for appointments at their Clinical Outpatients service. When she became really unwell, she was admitted to the In-Patient Unit and that’s where she passed away.
“The care from St. Luke’s Hospice wasn’t just for Pat, it was for all of us. They gave us precious time together and helped us through one of the hardest times of our lives.
“When Pat died we wanted to do something in her memory and support the Hospice. We walked our first St. Luke’s Loop the week she passed away and we’re going to do it every year now. It’s our way of saying thank you and to help raise money so that other families get that same support when they need it.
“Had it not been for the care, devotion and support from the whole of the St. Luke’s Hospice team and facilities, not only for Pat but for us as a family as well, then I don’t know what we would have done. They are amazing and we cannot thank them enough.
“I would encourage everyone to sign up to the St. Luke’s Loop – it’s really great fun and a great cause.”
All funds raised from St. Luke’s Loop will help St. Luke’s Hospice to ensure the ongoing provision of specialist, compassionate palliative and end of life care, where and when it is most needed.
