A 47-year-old Grays man has been banned from several shops and the RAFA Club in Grays following an investigation by Thurrock Neighbourhood Policing Team.

Magistrates imposed a two-year criminal behaviour order on Lee Britchford, of Southend Road, at a hearing in Southend on 1 August.

Britchford faces jail if he breaches the CBO which bans him from entering Tesco in Crammavill Street, Morrisons and Aldi in London Road, Farmfoods in Grays Shopping Centre and the RAFA Club in Southend Road, Grays.

Following work by Thurrock Neighbourhood Policing Team, Britchford had been left with no choice at an earlier court hearing but to admit to stealing food and laundry products on 13 different occasions from Aldi, Farmfoods, Greggs, Morrisons and Tesco in Grays, and from Morrisons in Stanford le Hope between 19 April and 26 June.

He also admitted two charges of assaulting shop workers by beating and one of stealing a patio table from the RAFA Club.

As well as the criminal behaviour order, Britchford was given a 12-month community order, which sees him having to complete 50 hours of unpaid work, 20 days of rehabilitation activity, three months of treatment for drug and alcohol dependency by the Forward Trust. He was also ordered to pay £192.05 compensation to Tesco and £52.95 to Farmfoods.
