ARTS Outburst is proud to announce that Thurrock Voices, its community choir programme, has been shortlisted for the Best Age-Friendly Outreach award at the Fantastic for Families Awards 2025, organised by the Family Arts Campaign.

This national recognition celebrates organisations that improve wellbeing, reduce isolation and create meaningful creative opportunities for older people and adults across the UK. Thurrock Voices has been acknowledged for its inclusive, supportive approach and its positive impact on the lives of local residents.

About Thurrock Voices

Thurrock Voices was created with a clear mission to bring people together through the joy of singing, reduce loneliness and isolation, and improve wellbeing, confidence and self-expression. The choir is committed to providing an age-friendly, welcoming and inclusive space where people of all abilities feel valued and supported.

More than just a musical activity, Thurrock Voices fosters friendship, purpose and community pride. There is no requirement for previous singing experience or auditions—members simply need a willingness to take part and enjoy making music together.

The Impact in Their Own Words

Many members have experienced significant personal and emotional transformation through their involvement with the choir. As they shared in recent case studies:

“I was not in a good place in my life before I got involved with Thurrock Voices (originally Golden Voices). Singing has lifted me from depression and grief.”

“My musical life has been resurrected after the pandemic.”

These powerful testimonies reflect the life-changing effect that inclusive, community-led arts can have, particularly for those facing isolation, loss or a lack of confidence.

“Thurrock Voices has shown us time and again how something as simple as singing together can change lives.” said Daryl Branch, CEO and artistic director of Arts Outburst. “It brings joy, confidence and a real sense of belonging to people who might otherwise feel disconnected. This nomination is a wonderful recognition of the power of creativity to bring communities together.

A National Platform for Thurrock

Being shortlisted places Thurrock on a national stage and recognises the importance of accessible creative programmes within local communities. It highlights the work being done in Thurrock to support wellbeing, build connections and ensure that creativity remains open to everyone—regardless of age or background.

Call for Community Support

Arts Outburst is now calling on the public, partners and local organisations to help amplify this achievement and support the continued growth of Thurrock Voices. We encourage people to share the news of this national nomination, spread the word to anyone who may wish to join the choir, and champion inclusive, community-led arts in Thurrock. By working together, the community can ensure that the choir continues to offer life-enhancing opportunities and reach those who need it most.
