JAMES McMurdock, Member of Parliament for South Basildon and East Thurrock, visited the site of the new Pitsea Community Diagnostic Centre this week as construction work officially commenced on what will become the largest facility of its kind in South Essex and the second largest in the country, servicing over 120,00 new appointments each year.

During the visit, Mr McMurdock was shown early-stage works on the development and design, which will bring state-of-the-art diagnostic services to Pitsea’s town centre. The site will also include a new activity space and public library, providing a significant community asset alongside its health functions.

The centre is due to open in 2027 and will house 8 endoscopy units as well as state of the art CT and MRI scanning facilities. Once operational, it will deliver faster diagnoses, earlier detection and improved health outcomes for residents in Pitsea, and the wider Basildon area.

Mr McMurdock welcomed the progress now being made. He said, “This is a huge win for the area. It is fantastic to see real progress on the Pitsea Community Diagnostic Centre. By bringing tests and scans closer to home, it will help people get appointments sooner and support earlier diagnosis.”

He added, “when it opens, this centre will be a major asset for Pitsea and will play an important role in strengthening our local healthcare services across Essex. The location near transport links and the market is ideal and ensures easy access for residents.”

The project forms wider efforts to expand diagnostic capacity and ensure communities benefit from accessible health infrastructure. Mr McMurdock confirmed that he will continue to monitor progress and work closely with local partners as construction continues.
