ASDA today issued a final reminder that it’s popular café ‘winter warmer’ £1 meal deal to support the over 60’s this winter will come to and end of 28th February. The initiative is set up to help ease financial pressures on pensioners during the colder winter months.

Last year, half a million £1 meals were served showing how vital this initiative is across this age group. Until the end of February, Asda are offering people aged 60 and over the chance to enjoy soup, bread and unlimited tea or coffee for just £1 in any of Asda’s 212 cafes.
Asda’s Community Champions are been inviting and encouraging many local over 60’s group and individuals to come along to their store café to use the £1 Winter Warmer meal as an opportunity to come and chat to others.
Last year, Asda’s Christmas community tracker laid bare the lack of human interaction and conversations millions of older people suffer in the run up and during the festive period, with one in 10 not sure they will speak to anyone between December 15th and January 1st and one in 10 over 60’s said they’d gone to a supermarket simply to speak to another person.
Jordan Cummings – Buying Manager, Cafes and Concessions at Asda said:“We know how cold it still is at the moment, and thousands of pensioners continue to worry about how to keep themselves warm in the face of rising living costs and on a fixed income – so we’re sending out a final reminder to come along to Asda Cafe’s and enjoy a hot meal for just £1.
“Last year alone we sold over half a million meals showing the vital need for this initiative and this year has been just as impactful not only to help with costs but it offers a relaxed social environment for people to come and chat to others.”
The Asda cafe’s also offer an all year round Kids Eat for £1 deal, which allows children aged 16 and under to get a hot or cold meal for just £1, with no minimum adult spend required, making it a consistent budget-friendly option for families, especially during half term. The offer includes a main (like nuggets, pizza, or pasta), a piece of fruit, and a drink, with variations like a £1 cold Pick & Mix option also available.
