Basildon Council has published the official list of candidates standing in the 2026 local elections

RESIDENTS across Basildon will go to the polls to elect councillors who will represent their local communities and help shape decisions on key issues such as housing, regeneration and local services.

Details of all confirmed candidates for each ward are now available on the council’s website: Election Notices – Thursday, 7 May 2026 – Basildon Borough Council. Elections are being held in 14 wards across the borough.

Gary Jones, Returning Officer and Chief Executive of Basildon Council, said:

“Local elections provide residents with a vital opportunity to influence the future of their neighbourhoods by electing councillors who will represent their communities.

“We are pleased to confirm the full list of candidates standing this year and encourage everyone who is eligible to take part in the democratic process.”

To vote by post, you must register by 5pm on Tuesday 21 April. Apply online at: https://www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote

If you would like someone to vote on your behalf (a proxy) because you are unable to attend a polling station, you must apply by 5pm on Tuesday 28 April 2026. Apply online at: https://www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote

Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on election day, Thursday 7 May 2026, with results expected to be announced the following day.
