Smoke alarm alerts resident to fire in East Tilbury flat

ESSEX Firefighters were called to a fire earlier today at a flat in East Tilbury.

A working smoke alarm alerted the resident, giving them time to get out.

The fire is believed to have started from a printer that had been left switched on and overheated.

Heat from the fire caused nearby aerosol cans to rupture, which led to further damage.

One person was treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.

Working smoke alarms provide the early warning needed to get out.

Please remember:

• Don’t leave electrical appliances switched on when not in use
• Take extra care with older electrical items
• Keep aerosols and flammable items away from heat sources
• Test your smoke alarms regularly
