BASILDON Council’s Community Safety team is inviting girls and young women from across the borough to help shape the design of public spaces to be more welcoming and enjoyable at a special Make Space for Girls consultation event.

The event will take place on Friday 29 May, from 3pm to 6pm, at Vange Hill Community Centre.
Highlights of the day include:
- Taking part in fun activities and creative ways to share views and ideas
- Finding out about support and services available from local organisations
- Asking questions and being heard in a relaxed, friendly environment
- Meeting new people and helping improve spaces for girls and young women across the borough
The Make Space for Girls project aims to create more inclusive and equitable public spaces for women and girls, shaped by their lived experiences, needs, and ideas.
A council spokesperson said:
“This is an opportunity for girls and young women across the borough to share their views on how we are putting their initial design ideas into practice following consultation with a focus group last summer.
“We are committed to ensuring that girls and young women feel heard, valued, and supported, and that their voices help shape local spaces that are being designed specifically with them in mind. Events like this are an important step in developing further understanding of the experiences of young girls in public spaces and working together to create positive and sustainable change.”
Attendees do not need to bring anything with them. The event is all about listening to girls and young women and ensuring their voices help shape local spaces, activities, and services.
Please note that young people under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over. The minimum age to attend is 10.
