OVER 200 pupils and members of staff at a Thurrock school could see their playground transformed as plans to upgrade the site have been submitted reports the Local Democracy Reporter.

Holy Cross Catholic Primary School in South Ockendon, submitted proposals to Thurrock Council on Friday, May 8 and these were validated on Monday, May 11.

If plans are approved, the new playground could include two new power coated metal canopies as well as multi-coloured polycarbonate roof sheets to the existing playground.

Power coated metal canopies are outdoor shelter structures, typically used as extra classroom space which works well in all weather.

Polycarbonate roof sheets are lightweight, strong roofing material which is often used alongside metal canopies frames.

The school itself expands across 23,337.30 square metres and has two large outdoor play areas for pupils to use during break and lunch times.

However, this is not the only planning application which relates to the school as the school has undergone many transformations since the mid-1950s.

On the property’s planning history, there are 12 seperate planning documents for various changes to the school from extensions to classrooms and renovations.

In 1981, the primary school had plans approved for an extension and renovation as a result of fire damage to existing buildings for educational use.

The proposal is yet to be decided.
