LOCAL volunteers across Basildon are being recognised and thanked this Volunteers’ Week for the invaluable contribution they make to communities across the borough.

Volunteers’ Week, taking place from Monday 1 June until Sunday 7 June, is a national celebration of the millions of people who give their time to support local organisations, charities, community groups and residents.

Across Basildon, volunteers play a vital role in strengthening communities — from supporting foodbanks, youth groups and community events to helping older residents, improving green spaces and providing essential local services.

Basildon Council is marking the week by highlighting the dedication and impact of local volunteers and encouraging more residents to get involved in community activity. A Volunteering Fair will also be held during Volunteers Week on Thursday 4 June, 10am-12pm, at Pathways in the entrance foyer of the Basildon Centre, SS14 1DL.

Cllr Danny Lawrence, Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Youth, said:

“Volunteers are at the heart of our communities and make a huge difference to the lives of residents across Basildon every single day. Their time, dedication and compassion help strengthen local organisations and bring people together.

“Volunteers’ Week is an important opportunity to recognise and thank everyone who gives their time to support others. We are incredibly grateful for the positive impact volunteers have across our borough.

“I’d also encourage anyone interested in volunteering to explore the opportunities available locally. Even giving a small amount of time can make a real difference to community life.”

Anyone interested in volunteering locally who can’t attend the Volunteering Fair can contact the council’s Communities Team via [email protected] to find out more about the many voluntary organisations and opportunities in Basildon.
