Visit Essex launches ‘This is Essex’ to  showcase county’s wide appeal

THE campaign invites visitors to explore a wide range of things to see and do and places to stay in Essex. The promotion also aims to change people’s perceptions of the county.  

Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Heritage at Essex County Council, Councillor Jeff Bray said: “Essex is a county of many contrasts. Whether you are looking for family fun by the coast, or a quiet walk by saltmarshes, there really is something for everyone. There are top tourist attractions from Clacton Pier to Colchester Zoological Society. Plus, natural wonders, such as seal spotting or tranquil glamping breaks.  

“We also have a bountiful food and drink scene, so whether you’re looking for a glass of fine wine in a vineyard or an ice cream by the sea, Essex has it all.” 

He continued: “This campaign is also about challenging perceptions and showing people, real Essex. We’re keen to welcome people to a vibrant, diverse and welcoming county, full of off-the-beaten track destinations and iconic attractions.” 

The ‘This is Essex’ promotion asks visitors, ‘Which Essex will you choose?’ 

From thrilling rides at Adventure Island to the wild salt marshes of Tollesbury. Plus, the ancient history of Colchester Castle to the cutting-edge exhibitions at Firstsite. The campaign uses bold visual images to present Essex as a county rich in choice, character and unexpected experiences. 
Adrenaline rush or wildlife hush – Riding the waves at Lee Valley White Water Centre or heading out on a seal watching tour along the Essex coast.  
Resort buzz or rustic bliss – Getting together with the family at a holiday park or relaxing in the countryside at a glamping escape. 
Coastline or Coaster - Experience the fun at Adventure Island in Southend, or head out to the peaceful salt marshes and coastal walks of Tollesbury.  
Ancient wonders or cutting-edge culture -  Wonder at Essex’s Roman history at Colchester Castle or head to Firstsite art gallery for the contemporary exhibitions.  
A cone by the coast or a glass by the vines – Enjoy a classic ice cream on the beach or treat yourself to a glass of wine in one of Essex’s award-winning vineyards.  

The campaign is designed to appeal to families, young couples and retirees.
