WE came to Orsett to interview artist Don Rankin about his life as an artist and his use of recycled materials in his garden but as with many people, you felt there was a defining moment in Don’s life.
That moment it appears, was Don’s time in the Korean War in the early 1950’s.
This is a highly poignant piece and explains why, after the war, Don pursued a life as an artist.
It also makes you wonder. Where are all the young men in Thurrock, who went and fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sadly, we all know of Aveley’s Nicky Mason, who died in Afghanistan but there must be hundreds of other young men, who have returned. Where are they? Who are they? How are they?…..
