Little Havens Children’s Hospice has made it to the finals of the National Lottery Awards 2010!

The National Lottery Awards is an annual search to find the UK’s favourite Lottery-funded projects, and after a three week frenzy of voting Little Havens Children’s Hospice is now one of the final three in the Best Voluntary/Charity project in association with Woman magazine.

The next and final round of public voting opened at 9am on Monday 26th July and the charity is urging supporters throughout Essex to register their vote for Little Havens. Little Havens Head of Care Lauren Summers says, “Winning a National Lottery Award would be a fantastic way to raise awareness of not only Little Havens, but also the work of children’s hospices up and down the country.

“It would mean everything to us – it’d be a fantastic thank you to everyone that has allowed Little Havens to be here for the past 12 years, but also a testament to the inspiring children and families we have the privilege of caring for. Please vote for us!”

Little Havens received nearly £650,000 from The Big Lottery Fund back in 2002 which funded the equivalent of eight full time nurses who specialise in looking after life-limited children. This was of incredible value to the charity as the care Little Havens provides to children and families throughout Essex is completely free of charge and this year will cost £2.3 million to run.

The winning project in each of the seven categories will receive national recognition on a star-studded BBC 1 TV show later this year and, in addition to the Lottery funding they have already been awarded, will receive a £2,000 cash prize to spend on their project.

Little Havens Children’s Hospice provides respite breaks and end-of-life care for children and teenagers living with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses, aiming to make their journey as comfortable and special as possible. It also works with their families, providing support, and bereavement services.

So please tell your friends, family, class mates and colleagues and get voting today! To register your vote for Little Havens please visit www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards or call 0844 6865047.
