Swimming: Thurrock excel at National Winter Champs

SWIMMERS from Thurrock Swimming Club competed at this year’s National Short Course Championships in Sheffield.  Joshua Shepherd, Henry Dean and James McGettigan, who all train at Blackshots Leisure Centre with their partners Impulse Leisure had a very successful championship.

Joshua was in great form winning the under 17 junior 50m fly final even though he is just 16.  His time was the 3rd fastest every set by a British 16 year old swimmer. In the 50m back, Joshua set another best time to qualify for the Junior finals and finished 2nd just 1/100th off of 1st.  In the 100 fly, Josh made the Senior B final with a 1 second PB.  In the final, Josh won the B final with another 1 second PB and again the 3rd fastest time for a 16 year old.  In the 50 free, Josy equalled his PB and set another best time in the 200 fly.

Henry Dean started off his week with a best time in the 50m fly, just missing out on a finals position by two places.  In the 100 event, Henry achieved another lifetime best and just missing out on another senior final.  In the 200 fly, Henry swam a great race and finished just outside of his best.

James McGettigan swam just outside of his PB in the 100m breaststroke.

Ethan Martin competed in this years Irish Short Course Championships.  Ethan competed in the 100 free and achieved a brilliant 1sec PB making the final in 52.16 .  In the final, Ethan once again broke the 53 sec barrier.
