Thurrock Foodbank supported by £2,000 donation

Amazon’s fulfilment centre in Tilbury provided support to Thurrock Foodbank with a food donation worth £2,000.

At the end of December, the team purchased essential items for the foodbank that included canned goods and everyday staples. The donation was designed to provide much-needed support to local families and individuals during a time of year that can often be challenging.

Peter Newall, Operations Manager from Thurrock Foodbank said:

“We are thankful to the team at Amazon in Tilbury for their donation and support at the end of last year that gave us a great boost for the new year. The festive period is always a time of increased demand, and contributions like this help us provide essential support to those in need during that time and beyond.”

Anais Bokole, who works at Amazon in Tilbury, added:

“Giving back to our community is something we are committed to at Amazon, and I’m pleased to be part of a workforce that prioritises positive action. I’m proud to have been able to support Thurrock Foodbank with this donation from Amazon.”

Omer Kartal, General Manager at Amazon in Tilbury, added:

“Thurrock Foodbank is an incredible support system for many people in the local community, especially during times of increased pressure. It is a pleasure to provide this donation and contribute to the community foodbank.”

Community donations and employee volunteering are just two of the ways Amazon supports the communities where it operates. Amazon co-founded the Multibank initiative with former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown to support families in need. The initiative has donated more than 7 million surplus goods to over 600,000 families across Scotland, Wales, Greater Manchester, London, Tees Valley and Birmingham.

Amazon has supported more than one million students across the UK with free STEM education programmes through Amazon Future Engineer and helps community organisations transport meals and other essentials to families in need through its pro bono logistics programme, Amazon Local Good.

Amazon partners with Comic Relief and is the official home of the charity’s iconic Red Nose. Together with its employees, customers, and partners, Amazon has raised over £4.8 million to fund projects that support people across the UK, and around the world.
