CHELMSFORD Racecourse presents its latest all-weather card on Thursday afternoon, complete with six races; five handicaps and a novice.

We kick off with a two-year-olds’ novice over a mile (2.30). Telfy Boy is a newcomer here, the only one of the six runners making his first appearance, while Amora Queen is the only one with a win under her belt already, having been victorious on her debut at Doncaster in June. She runs here possibly as a warm up before some big entries in Group races later in the season, and connections will be expecting her to win. This ought to be almost a one-horse race.

Staying with the juveniles, race two is a nursery handicap over five furlongs (3.00). A warm looking race with plenty of good recent form on show, there isn’t one runner without a chance. Marco Botti’s Spirit Star certainly looks to have a solid chance, and has a good partnership with rider Benoit De La Sayette, so she could be our winner. Doilookokay could pick up a place here after being narrowly beaten last time at Leicester.

A six-furlong handicap is next (3.30). Michael Keady’s Master Dandy should run a good race, having placed second of 12 last time out, while Havana Sky might leave a poor run behind him in first-time cheekpieces today. Poetic Jack should be able to go well here under Hollie Doyle, having come back down to what ought to be a very workable mark for him.

Race four is a mile and a quarter handicap, worth over £23,000 to the winner (4.00). Our topweight is Flight Leader, who should find the company reasonably easy but has a lot of weight to shoulder. Wadacre Gomez might be worth considering today, given his good course and distance form and sitting at what is a winnable mark for him. Sovereign Sea has been given time to freshen up after disappointing last time out at York, and should be able to bounce back to his usual good form here.

The penultimate race is another mile and a quarter handicap (4.30). Kentucky Kingdom returns to action having not been seen since December 2023, so is best watched on this occasion. The consistent River Alwen should be up to his usual placing form, but may need to come down the handicap a couple of pounds in order to get another win on the board. Fihrayn has a chance on this mark after finishing third of 11 last time out at Kempton.

Finally, a mile fillies’ handicap finishes off the afternoon’s racing (5.00). Alice Haynes’ Capuchinero won over this distance at Kempton last month, and another strong performance might not be beyond him. Though still a maiden from 10 runs, Bayadere could change that today from a new career low mark, having gone quite well in two runs on the all-weather last year. Lunarscape similarly may be able to win from her current mark, and tends to go better on the all-weather than she shoes on turf.
