USP College (Seevic) have been facilitating huge progress in inclusive football, running Disability Just Play sessions for the past three years to provide students with a safe and welcoming environment to enjoy the game.

What started as a lunchtime initiative for learners in the ‘Pathways’ department has grown into a thriving programme which promotes equal opportunities and the physical, social and mental health benefits of sport. The sessions, organised weekly at the college, have attracted strong participation from students with varying disabilities.

Their enthusiasm led to the formation of a team which qualified for a national competition, finishing in an impressive third place last year. Building on this success, the college introduced an after-school Soccability club, expanded its resources with new kits, footballs and bibs, and opened the door for mainstream learners with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) to join.

This initiative is a shining example of how football can unite communities and create opportunities for everyone to thrive. Sian Hillis, Essex County FA Football Development Officer, said: “Through the FA Just Play Programme, USP Seevic have access to equipment and funding which helps to grow inclusive football opportunities within the college. Recreational programmes enable more people to enjoy the game, offering flexible ways to play outside the traditional team environment.”

Essex County FA Equality & Inclusion Officer, Milly Morgan, explained: “I’m delighted to see USP Seevic showing such a strong commitment to making football accessible for everyone. The introduction of a pan-disability programme, alongside their men’s and women’s programmes, reflects the college’s dedication to inclusion, ensuring all learners have the opportunity to develop, compete and be part of the game.”
