Police in Grays are appealing for information following a burglary where £10,000 worth of fishing equipment was taken, with great sentimental value to the owner.

The burglary occurred overnight between April 25 and 26 in Bevin Way, Stanford le Hope. The thieves had removed locks and a window. They also took a garden strimmer.

The owner had spent a lifetime building up this collection which included tackle and rods for carp, pike and coarse fishing. Some of the items are rare, including a handmade rod, silver Shimano reels and other items that are not made anymore. The victim is devastated by the theft as it is his hobby and the thieves have stolen everything.

Police believe that the equipment may crop-up a boot sales or be offered to local anglers.

Pc Aimee Lloyd who is investigating said: “I also think he may have been targeted and the thieves must have taken their time to load all the items in a large vehicle so I would appeal for anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in that area to contact me.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Pc Lloyd at the Area Investigation team at Grays on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
