OVER five hundred Thurrock residents attended The Big Lunch on Wed 25 July at Grays park to enjoy all the entertainment and activities under a blazing sun.

A number of local voluntary sector organisations gave their support and Council staff were also on hand to showcase their services to the public.

The Mayor of Thurrock launched the event and officially opened the refurbished only tennis court in Grays which had previously become so poor it was unusable. The Funding Officer in the Community Development team at the Council sourced some funding from developers contributions for Grays Town.

The court has already become extremely popular with the local residents who use it daily from morning till dusk.

The Mayor presented medals to the winners at the Grand Final of the tennis tournament where council staff and local players competed for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in true Olympic style.

Cllr Yash Gupta said “It has been a great honour for me to open this tennis court for everyone to enjoy. The Olympics have raised people’s interest in so many sports and hopefully this court will continue to inspire young people to develop their interests in competing and physical fitness”
